BILDUNG AS A FRAMEWORK TO ADDRESS MAJOR CHALLENGES OF DIGITAL EDUCATION

This work comes in two connected forms.
1. The video is a condensed presentation of the key elements of the argument. A video can and should not present too many details, as this would make the video less accessible and less understandable. It can however make use of the individual qualities of the medium, by taking a personal approach and use of images to enhance understanding.
2. The text gives a more detailed analysis with quotations and references, placing the argument in a broader academic context.

Both forms can be used independently or in a combination. So you can watch the video and click on the linked text passages for more insight. Or you can read the text and then go to the video, for a summary and recap of the text. Thus I hope to use both literacies and their individual qualities for a best possible understanding, allowing the individual scholar to chose their individual approach.

Please note that the text is to a great extent based on the video, a medium demanding a simple and easily understandable language.


Introduction

Digital Education comes with a lot of great advantages. But also a number of problems.
Some of the biggest problems can however be solved by an educational and philosophical idea called „Bildung“.
In this video and article I will explain what Bildung is, and how it can help tackle two concrete problems of Digital Education:
Lack of quality and sustaining if not strengthening a neoliberal society.
